Individualized Assessment and Tutoring
Individualized Assessment and Tutoring

Program Description

The College of Education and Human Development Reading Clinic at Texas A&M is designed to provide individualized assessment and reading instruction for students who are challenged with aspects of the reading process.

The focus of assessment and instruction for the Spring 2017 Reading Clinic and Tutorial Program will be for students currently enrolled in first through fifth grades who have not been previously identified with a disability.  The following services are included:

  • Individual evaluation:

Evaluations (2-3 hour long sessions) will take place early to mid-April.  The purpose of the evaluation is to determine student strengths and needs in reading and literacy related processes to assist in planning instruction for literacy tutoring.  A formal report on findings will be provided.

  • Literacy tutoring:

Approximately 20 tutoring sessions will take place during June (the first summer semester) based on assessment results.  Students will work one-on-one or in small groups with an assigned tutor. The tutoring sessions will be held for 5 hours/week for four weeks and will occur in the Harrington Education Building on the TAMU campus (please note – transportation cannot be provided).  A follow-up report on student progress as well as recommendations for future instruction will be completed at the end of the summer tutoring program.

Evaluations and literacy tutoring will be provided by the clinic director, TAMU graduate students, or other appropriately certified individuals.

The fee for the Reading Clinic services is $275 for the diagnosis and tutoring sessions, with a $50 deposit due upon enrollment and the remainder to be paid by June 1.  A $75 discount is available for TAMU employees, and scholarships are also available for those with financial need.  A commitment to the entire instructional period is required.

Applications for the Spring/Summer Reading and Tutorial Clinic are no longer being accepted.

The Reading Clinic is pleased to announce that beginning in the Fall of 2017 the following services will be available:

  • Reading assessment, including assessment for dyslexia and dysgraphia
  • Tutoring services for students experiencing difficulties with reading
